Welcome Autumn

Hummingbird, September 2021

To welcome autumn
stand in the sunlight and learn
from the hummingbirds

* The backyard hummingbirds are ever-vigilant. They hop from branch to branch for the best vantage point, darting and diving into flight. They are feisty and territorial - I stood watching them for quite awhile this afternoon, listening to their calls and the hum of their wings. Their arrival signals the shift into fall.

The Blessing

Street Art, September 2021
Manitou Springs, Colorado

The Lord bless you and keep you;
The Lord make His face shine upon you,
and be gracious to you;
The Lord lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you peace.

Numbers 6:24-26

* This is the blessing that has gone before me and followed me all day. I pray it over those I love.

Once upon a time
a great moth landed nearby
after her long flight

* At first, this moth flying as best she could with a badly damaged wing in the neighbor's yard. She came to rest in the driveway. Here are a few photos that capture her impressive details - a rare experience. Godspeed.

Growing Still

Dragonfly, September 2021

Your rambling hum grows
still on the back porch when you
find a spot to rest

* Dragonflies are active in the backyard, circling overhead with a low hum. Now and again, they take a momentary rest before taking off again. It calls to mind the stead hum of my thoughts and impressions. They too find a restful spot on the back porch.
