Welcome

Day Lily, May 2023

Welcome month of May
month of saturated blooms
and merry birdsong

*This morning I was pulling weeds and listening to the neighborhood birds call out to one another. It is still cool in the shade. The daylily is from an afternoon visit to the garden store. I'm grateful for beautiful spring days outside.

Recovery

Geranium, April 2023

In February,
it seemed you were lost to me,
but look at you now!

* The garden is a good teacher when it comes to reminding me that what seems lost can be found again. May it be so!

Treasure in the Tree

Tree with a knot hole, April 2023

Can you imagine
finding treasure in the tree
just like Scout and Jem?

*I passed by this tree on an evening walk and immediately remembered reading "To Kill A Mockingbird" in school. I'm recalling the part of the novel where main character Scout and her brother Jem discover a series of assorted trinkets and treasures hidden in the knothole of a tree. For me the treasure in this photo is the pie slice of sky and green branches.

A Perfect Bluebird

Bluebird, April 2023

A perfect bluebird
perches in the rain to bring
wonder and delight

* My son shared this photo with me from his afternoon walk. Apparently this bluebird was unafraid and stayed for a few moments before flying away. So grateful that he shared this moment with me.

Feasting and Fasting

Monarch Caterpillars on Milkweed, March 2023

My Very Hungry Caterpillar, March 2023

Monarch Caterpillars, March 2023

Feasting and fasting,
both are part of making a
real transformation

* A monarch caterpillar will grow to 3,000 times the size it was after it first hatched from its egg. The caterpillar stage lasts 10-14 days; during this time it will molt 5 times. While it is molting, the caterpillar will crawl away from the milkweed and stop eating for a short time.  Learn more here about the Monarch Bottlefly life cycle.
