Mother to Mother

A Kiss for Mom (mule deer family), September 2021
Colorado Springs

Mother to mother,
we will always lift our cheek
hoping for a kiss

* We were driving away from the weekend rental and spotted this family of deer walking through the neighborhood and grazing from the front gardens. I got out of the car to catch a few photos. They did not seem alarmed.

In one breath

Young Yellow Finch, September 2021
Colorado Springs

In the next moment
I’ll scoop you up in my hands
in one breath - you’ll fly

* On the morning we left Colorado Springs, I went out to the car to load my suitcase and found this baby bird on the ground. I sat on the curb with my camera for a few photos, then set my camera down. I scooped her up and she nested in my hands for a few seconds. I think we were both surprised when she took a short flight into a nearby tree. I’ll never forget that encounter.

In Memory

Fallen Fire Fighters Memorial, September 2021
Colorado Springs

Find honor and peace
with brothers and sisters who
made the climb with you

Click here to learn more about the memorial. My husbands father's name is engraved on the wall, along with thousands of firefighters who have died in the line of duty. It is a hallowed place to remember and meet other fire fighters and their families.
