I turn the page on the kitchen calendar
and King Tut greets me -
a reminder of ancient mystery
on an ordinary day.
When a person died in ancient Egypt, their heart was weighed
to indicate their worthiness to enter the afterlife.
A worthy heart had the lightness of a feather.
Not Egyptian, not ancient, not chasing worthiness,
but something in me desires to live this day
with lightness of heart.
